Once upon a time, this little gal went to the big city of New York. The Big Apple. I went as part of a foursome. It was me, two other women, and my then 14-year old daughter. We boarded a plane that was bound to New York City in April of 2009.
Bold and Bright 2012 Prom Dresses Arrive at Belk
Look red-carpet ready in designs to fit any budget
One of the most exciting nights of a budding fashionista’s life is the prom. This year, Belk at Parkway Place presents a stellar collection of star-quality dresses for every budget that will be sure to make her a prom “fashion” queen.
Prom night will be even more magical for some local students, thanks to the Junior League of Huntsville (JLH). 161 high school students, or “butterflies,” will have the opportunity to choose a prom dress, plus accessories, February 24 – 26, 2012 at the Butterfly Boutique at the Huntsville Botanical Garden.
The students, from high schools across Madison County, were chosen by their high school guidance counselors and teachers. All have overcome tremendous adversity, shown outstanding academic record or experienced financial hardship. The dresses, shoes, jewelry and purses were donated by local individuals and businesses. Each young lady will have a “personal shopper” to help her make her prom night selections.
The Butterfly Project was created by the Junior League of Huntsville in 2006 as an effort to boost self-esteem among local high school girls. Our hope is that a simple gown can be the catalyst to help these young ladies unlock their full potential! In just five years, the Butterfly Project has grown into one of JLH’s signature projects and one of the League’s most meaningful contributions to the community.
We welcome the media to visit our Butterfly Boutique, February 25, 2012, and interview any of our “butterflies” as they choose their prom night attire. You can also get pictures and video of their stunning transformation.
They will shop at the following times:
Friday February 24, 2012 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Saturday February 25 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Sunday February 26 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

What is Junior League of Huntsville?
Junior League of Huntsville is a diverse group of women dedicated to improving our local community through volunteering and developing women into future leaders. JLH members provide 20,000 hours a year of volunteer service in the Huntsville/Madison County area. In addition, the group awards numerous local grants annually. Originally founded as the Grace Club Auxiliary in 1949, the organization became a Junior League in 1975 and has been serving this community for more than 60 years.
Continuing on with my theme of shortness, which, by the way, was totally not planned. Sometimes it just comes together without my interference. Don’t you love it when it that happens?
So today I’m going to write about Short Sexy Hair, the product. Right now I use Frenzy and Control Maniac (love that name). These products were suggested to me by my hair stylist, of course.
