Next Time You Travel, Check Out VRBO

Condo5We’ve been using VRBO (Vacations Rentals By Owner) for years now. We have yet to be disappointed. In fact, each of our selections just keep getting better and better.

As you know, The Gent and I just spent a few days at Orange Beach. When it was time to plan our little getaway we, of course, went straight to VRBO.com to see what was available. By now, we know the routine and know where and what to search within the website.

However, you can use VRBO anywhere. In other words, if you want to go to New York City and stay for a few days, you can use VRBO instead of booking a hotel. You can use them anywhere in the United States and in Europe.

I’m not going to lie, I’d love to work for VRBO. Wouldn’t that be a dream job; traveling around and staying at certain rentals and then writing about it for them. They do have someone that does that already. I don’t know if it is one person or a team of people but they call it the VRBO Bear.

But back to our most recent stay at Orange Beach. We were there November 1st thru the 5th. The weather was perfect, the tourists were all back home so it was very quiet. I like it quiet. The Gent and I did manage to walk the beach for about an hour each day. We took some great photos of the sunrise and sunset. The food was great as well. More about the food later. This blog post is dedicated to VRBO.

In the meantime, please enjoy the condo where we stayed.

I took all of these photos on the morning that we left the beach, as we left it.

I’ll leave you with some images of our sunrise and sunset as a teaser for my next entry about the rest of our stay.

Do What You Say You Are Going To Do

I was in need of some words of encouragement so I went to a writing group I belong to on Facebook. Someone replied with this video. It is a 1 minute and 47 second video of total inspiration. I’ve already viewed it several times and plan to watch it daily.

Thought I’d share it here.

And this, on her ABOUT PAGE, last sentence – Powerful….

I skipped college, raised money, wrote books, learned to speak multimedia, and generally learned everything I know through bursts of obsession.

Anyone who knows me, that knows me well, knows that I am constantly beating myself up for not completing college. I’ve been using that nonsense for an excuse for years. I’ll stop it today. So there ya go.

Thanks,

This Week’s Great Find – Flipboard

I actually found this app several years ago, when I was watching the Independent Fashion Bloggers Conference that takes place in New York City. The first year they had the conference, they live-streamed it and I was able to watch it online. It was FABULOUS!

Anyway, one of the speakers that year (I can’t remember who) had shared this little jewel – Flipboard. I immediately went out and downloaded it for my iPhone. You can connect your social media accounts such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Flickr, Tumblr, Google+, YouTube, and much more. Flipboard then pulls all of that content in so that it resides all in one place.

(Click on any image for larger view)

You can add a whole slew of other categories that Flipboard provides, anything from New & Noteworthy to Business to Tech & Science to Arts & Culture to Sports to Food & Dining to name a few. Trust me when I say they have anything and everything.

FlipboardWhen you are browsing through all of the content and you find something that you’d like to read but want to save it for later, you can select “read later” and pick which application you’d like to use for that too. Right now their selections are Instapaper, Pocket, and Readability. I use Readability.

I can’t go over every single feature and benefit this app offers because it is extensive. You’ll have to download it yourself and play with it, explore it for yourself. I’ve had it for a couple of years now and I am still finding new bells and whistles.

The latest thing they added are Magazines. You can create your own and share it with others and you can also select from other magazines that other people have created.

So that is my Great Find for the Week – Flipboard. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Currently

This blog post is totally inspired by See Jane Write Magazine and the Writeous Babe Project. I had never heard of this “currently” blogging idea until today. But I like it so I thought I’d take the format and implement it here on my blog. And besides, it was the writing prompt for today for #bloglikecrazy.

Watching: Well, Project Runway season is over and it’s not time yet for American Idol. We watch the Food Network a lot, and Fox News. Right this very minute, as I type this, I am watching reruns of Seinfeld. We love Seinfeld in our house. Even though the television seem to be on all the time in our house, it really acts as background noise for me. I’ve never been a big serial watcher. I have never watched one single episode of Lost or Desperate Housewives or Weeds or The Walking Dead or The Big Bang Theory. You get the point. I do watch Downton Abbey though and I’m waiting for that season to start.

Listening to: I don’t listen to a lot of music. The only time you’ll see earbuds in my ears is when I am cleaning the house. However, if you look at my playlist on my iPhone you’ll find a wide variety of tunes, ranging from Tina Turner to Al Green to David Bowie to Harry Connick Jr to Lady GaGa to Prince to The Rolling Stones to Johnny Cash to Van Morrison to Kelly Clarkson, to name a few.

Planning: I don’t really have any plans. And that makes me sad. We just got back from a mini vacation where we went to the beach for a few days. So I am planning on getting back to the grindstone and a regular schedule. I plan to get back to working out on a regular basis and back on my weight loss diet. I am always planning a blog article, so I’ve got that going for me.

Beach 9

Thinking about: I am always thinking about the future. What would it be like if this happened and what would happen if that happened. I am always thinking about the kids and their future. I think about living somewhere else all the time. But that is more like fantasizing instead of thinking. Constantly, I think of what others might think, of anything, and especially what they may think of me. I know, I shouldn’t, but I do. I need to stop that and just get on with it. It seems, too, that I am always thinking of “the next big thing” whatever that may be.

Looking forward to: I am looking forward to the holidays and having the kids home and spending more time with family. I look forward to The Manchild’s high school graduation but also a little sad that that chapter will be closing. I will no longer have either of my kids in high school. And believe it or not, I am always looking forward to the future, no matter what it has in store for me, us.

Reading: Well, I recently started Adriana Trigiani’s nonfiction book titled, “Don’t Sing at the Table: Life Lessons from My Grandmothers.” So far, I am liking it and I am in awe of the women she is describing; very independent, smart, frugal, and business owners. Of course, it is also making me feel very inadequate.

coffeeMaking me happy: The Gent and my kids make me happy. Each new day that God grants me also makes me happy. It gives me another chance to get it right. My day planner makes me happy. My day filled with blogging activities makes me happy. This weather is making me happy. No sugar is making me happier. Being fit and healthy, making better choices in life are making me happy. Seeing others succeed at their passion makes me very happy and inspired. Being inspired and creative makes me happy. And coffee, coffee makes me happy.

So there it is, and it was fun. I’ll have to try and remember to do this more often, from time to time. I’m sure it will all change.
