In this installment of Citizen Glam, Christy Dunn, Sales Director with Mary Kay, agrees to be
interrogated interviewed for the blog.
Christy Dunn and I have known each other for about 7 or 8 years. I have always, always, always admired her sense of style. Not only is she a fashionista but she is a savvy business woman as well. I have learned a lot from her business-entrepreneurship.
She runs and owns a successful Mary Kay business and leads a unit of sales people who love to help women feel good about themselves.
Please welcome Christy Dunn, Citizen Glam.
What is your definition of style? Or how do you define style?
I think style is a direct reflection of one’s personality. It allows each of us to show our own creativity through our ‘look’. Our style somewhat shows the world who we really are and a level of our self-confidence and self-esteem, through our hair, makeup artistry and the clothes we choose.
Describe your personal style.
I would say my style is classic and elegant. However, I do like to add a little flare, like some leather, feathers or faux fur. I like to take a classic look and turn it into a show-stopper.
What top 3 items should be in someone’s closet?
- A pair of jeans that fit perfect and are actually slimming.
- A black pencil skirt.
- A classic, stiff, white button up blouse.
Where do you get your inspiration?
That’s really a good question. I really don’t look at style magazines much anymore. I do follow trends through social media and the internet. I do know what I like and I don’t buy anything unless I absolutely LOVE the way I look and feel in it.
Who were your style icons growing up?
Julia Roberts, Jennifer Anniston, Kate Moss and probably a little Madonna.
Your favorite place to shop?
Chico’s – their clothes fit so well and the quality is amazing.
Is there something you would not mind spending a lot of money on? If so, what?
Shoes! I love beautiful heels, but at this point in my life they have to be quality and they have to be comfortable. With my career, I spend a lot of time on my feet in front of people and beautiful shoes just make an outfit, but I have to be able to stand for hours in them!
What is your advice to someone trying to find their personal style?
I think the most important part of choosing your own style is making sure you feel like you look amazing in what you are wearing. It really doesn’t matter if others like it, even though I love a sincere compliment. If I feel like I am rocking an outfit, it builds my confidence and that is the most important accessory
Tell us about the first time you knew you had the style bug?
I would say middle school. I remember looking at my older sister’s style magazines and trying to duplicate the styles from the models with what I had in my closet.
How has your style changed or developed over time?
I feel like I have definitely become more refined in my style as I have aged. I still love to look and feel sexy in my clothes, but without revealing too much. I think the most important part of choosing your own style is making sure you feel like you look amazing in what you are wearing.
Do you have a favorite designer? If so, who? Why?
In addition to shopping at Chicos, I do love Michael Kors. I love the style and the fit.
