A CrossFit Open Update

Well, I now have two of the five 2017 CrossFit Open workouts behind me. This is a CrossFit Open Update. Dumbbell snatches and burpee box jump-overs, oh my! A very challenging few WODS.

CrossFit Open Update

17.1 I did the scaled version.
For time:
10 dumbbell snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
20 dumbbell snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
30 dumbbell snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
40 dumbbell snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
50 dumbbell snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs

Women use 20-lb. dumbbell and 20-in. box, step-ups OK

Time cap: 20 minutes

I did the workout in 19:56 WHEW!


17.2 I did the Rx version
Complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 12 minutes of:
2 rounds of:
50-ft. weighted walking lunge
16 toes-to-bars
8 power cleans
Then, 2 rounds of:
50-ft. weighted walking lunge
16 bar muscle-ups
8 power cleans
Etc., alternating between toes-to-bars and bar muscle-ups every 2 rounds.

Women use 35-lb. dumbbells

Now, with this one, I KNEW I would not get passed the 16 toes-to-bar but I also knew my score would be better than if I scaled it. So, I only got through the first walking lunges and then completed 5 toes-to-bar which means I got a total of 15 reps. And trust me, 5 toes-to-bar was 5 more than I anticipated getting.

I had been able to do only ONE toes-to-bar in my life so I was happy with this score and NOW I KNOW I can do toes-to-bar!

What are toes-to-bar? I’m glad you asked, and they are a lot harder than they look.
