When you get to be a certain age, the kids are nearly grown and out the door, and when you are left with full-time news coverage of crap, it only makes sense that one goes to reminiscing of the good ole days.
Let’s start with a few celebrities I grew up with. I didn’t actually grow up with them but when they are on television, and you know we are a television generation, then it naturally felt like we knew them.
All of the celebrities I have chosen were born the same year I was born; 1966. We are facing 50 soon.
Cindy Crawford – Probably one of the first ever supermodels I had ever heard of in my time. She graced the covers of all the glossies, walked the runways in style, and dabbled in acting once in a while. Cindy was the original host on MTV’s House of Style. Remember that? She has been in the news for the “leaked” photos from a recent Marie Claire photoshoot.
John Cusack – Sixteen Candles and Say Anything, I don’t think I need to “say anything” else. Also in Stand By Me and The Grifters, back in the day. He stole my heart again in Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil – a book turned into a movie that spurred an actual trip to Savannah, Georgia for me.
Daisy Fuentes – Daisy signed on with MTV in 1993 and was their first latino VJ. I also remember her from the long running family “reality” television show on ABC – America’s Funniest Videos. She was a co-host for two years. Daisy is involved in philanthropy work and also has goods and merchandise in Kohl’s. As I was doing my research for this blog post, I realized that a lot revolved around MTV, for me.
Kiefer Sutherland – before he was Jack Bauer (a show I never have watched) I knew him as a vampire in Lost Boys, a punk and bully in Stand By Me, and a medical student in Flatliners who obsesses with what lies beyond death.
Robin Wright – before she was Claire Underwood, before she married that wretched Sean Penn, and before she was Jenny, she played Princess Buttercup in The Princess Bride.
Yes, I gasped when I found out Princess Buttercup married Sean Penn.
However, she may have gotten some good research from that experience in order to play Claire so well. I know Claire is a bad bad bad person but I can’t help but love her and especially her style sense.
Adam Sandler – ABC Afterschool Specials, remember those? Yeah, Adam had an appearance as a drug dealer in Testing Dirty (1990) before his happy-go-lucky and funny-strange characters on Saturday Night Live (1990-1995). He also hung out with Theo in four episodes of The Cosby Show as Smitty.
Oh, and I know you remember these folks, right?
Who are some of the celebrities you grew up with?
Thanks for reading and show me your moxie!
