Last week I had the privilege of attending Folk Fusion at the Huntsville Museum of Art. Of course, I had to ask myself, “What do I wear to a fashion event?”
First of all, allow me to explain what the event was about – Folk Fusion.
Folk Fusion – where folk art meets fashion. Designers get inspiration from folk art and create fashion.
The Huntsville Museum of Art is distinguished to be the only museum outside of New York to present the exhibit Folk Couture: Fashion and Folk Art.
Thirteen established and emerging designers including Catherine Malandrino and Fabio Costa, Project Runway Season 10 and Project Runway All Stars Season 4, were asked to create a fashion piece of original couture inspired by one or more works from the American Folk Art Museum’s collection in New York City.
I purchased my ticket because I did not want to be left out of this one! The evening was fabulous and lovely, I felt like I was in a big city, in New York City! Certainly, it did NOT have a Huntsville event feel to it so I was a happy camper and glad I attended.
The designs were gorgeous and it was great to see them up close and personal.
I hope Huntsville hosts more events like this in the future. Enjoy some pictures I took.
Now, for what I wore to the event. I wanted to wear a maxi-dress but was afraid it might be too informal for an evening occasion such as the opening exhibit at an art museum that was also a cocktail event.
But then I thought, I want to stand out and be different anyway, who says you can’t wear a maxi-dress, who is the fashion police anyway? I’ll wear a maxi-dress if I want to, and so I did. I thought I looked alright. I felt comfortable and confident.
What do I Wear to a Fashion Event?
I first picked the shoes. I was actually looking for a pair of shoes to go with a different dress that I was going to wear, a shorter more formal cocktail dress. But I could not find any shoes that I liked.
But then I found these pair of shoes by The Italian Shoemakers and fell in love with them! Of course, that meant I had to find a different dress to wear with them and then I found the maxi-dress – it is what I wanted to wear to begin with anyway, remember?
No, I was not able to take my little Jack-Jack dog as my date.
So, that’s it, that is what I wore to a fashion event.
Ciao Mio Amore,
