How I Unplug

How I unplug – It is good to unplug once in a while and that is exactly what I had to do the other day. It was a Monday after a fairly active weekend for my 55-year old body.

Saturday was my long run. It is part of my 10K training, a 10K Chocolate Run coming up in November in Ohio with my 45-year old sister. So, Saturday I ran 3.5 miles and then proceeded to do a lot of errands (walking around) with hardly any water intake.

Sunday I had the grand baby. I took him out and about on Sunday, so again, more walking.

Then Monday morning came and I felt like crap. I went to work but didn’t last long. I barely got to lunch time when I decided to take the rest of the day off.

Combined with the physical exertion that my 55-year old body now acknowledges and the self-induced mental stress from overcommitting myself to some things – I was exhausted.

So I unplugged for the rest of the day on Monday.

How I unplug

Junk Food

I wouldn’t normally recommend buying junk food. I was tired, weak, and gave in to my craving for McDonald’s chicken nuggets. A combo meal was purchased; large with a Dr. Pepper. Then chased with a handful of Oreos and glass of milk.

Get Comfortable

  • Get out of restrictive clothing
  • Take off the face paint and remove fake eyelashes
  • Remove contacts
  • Taking long hot shower, use all the hot water!
  • Get into oversize soft teeshirt
  • Go to bedroom, close the door, fluff pillows and get into bed.

Escape

Turn off cell phone notifications. Mute Facebook messenger. Find something fun to watch on the streaming service of your choice. By fun, I mean something not heavy and dark (unless that’s your thing). For me, right now, it is Monk. I am now on season 6.

That’s what does it for me. Even if it was just for half a day. It was needed and it helped me sleep better later that night. The next day I felt my normal self again and refreshed.

I am having a hard time accepting that running 3.5 miles and running a few errands and babysitting my grand baby could have taken that much out of me. I didn’t think it was a lot of activity at all but, again, my 55-year old body is telling me otherwise and trying to slow me down. Ugh.
