Canada’s Porch Pirates Are The Victims

Canada's Porch Pirates are the Victims

In Canada, the criminals become the victims. Thieves who steal delivered packages sitting on people’s porches are called “Porch Pirates.” And now, the porch pirates are the victims.

According to Communications Officer Lt. Benoit Richard, he doesn’t want residents recording the criminals on their phones or their Ring doorbells and then posting them on social media. He proclaims defamation as to why he doesn’t want the criminals recorded and shared. The officer says just let them do the investigations.

Richard told community members to call 911 in the case of a stolen package and give proof to law enforcement, adding, “We’ll do the investigation, bring that person to justice and file some charges.” – Breitbart

Idiot.

More people recording these acts and posting them on social media might deter the criminals.

Defamation. :: eye roll :: Give me a break. Of course, it is Canada. So.

Honestly, I am somewhat shocked that we are still dealing with this crime. By now, surely, the criminals know that someone is always watching. Then again, in today’s climate, people are brazen.

The home alarm systems company ADT provides information on catching a porch pirate. While they do not advocate sharing your video on social media, they want you to purchase one of their video security systems. It definitely could be a deterrent.

But what I found most intriguing is a potential new business that could flourish.

Pay for a Package Receiving Service
There are services you can sign up for with major delivery companies that offer lockers you can rent. You typically pay a monthly fee in order to have access to a locker where you can have your packages delivered.

This might be practical if the location of the locker is near to where you live or work. However, if it isn’t, it can end up being more of a hassle than some of these other solutions.  – ADT

But how about starting a pickup service instead of finding a building to rent or buy to convert into lockers? You could offer to drive by the customer’s house to pick up their delivered package. They can see you picking it up from their porch on their video surveillance (if they have one), and you can hold it for them until they can get home to get it. You can deliver it to them again!

Now, I don’t know if people would pay for this. I haven’t thought this new business out all that much. It was just a fleeting thought. But people pay for some bizarre stuff as it is. So why not?

Of course, I suppose you could trick a porch pirate, too.

If you do this, I’d expect retaliation from the criminal. So beware.

I suppose you could always get to know your neighbors, too. Or, if you have grown children living in the area, you could always text and ask them to swing by and pick up the package. This is what I do. And they oblige, thankfully.

But yeah, Canada is now on the side of the criminal. Canada’s law enforcement doesn’t want you, the law-abiding citizen, disturbing the privacy of a criminal. Good grief, Canada needs an enema.
