New York City Mayor Eric Adams Accused

New York City Mayor Eric Adams

It looks like New York City Mayor Eric Adams is accused of sexual assault from 30 years ago! I suspect the Mayor doth protest too much! He has been making headlines lately with his words about the state of his city and all of the illegals flooding his precious sanctuary city these days.

Watch out, Eric, don’t say too many bad things about Joe Biden, or his administration will come after you. And I am no big huge fan of Eric’s either, but to have this thrust upon him makes me even take a pause for him.

Now, I don’t know if Crooked Joe is really sicking his heat onto Eric Adams or not, and maybe this is all just a coincidence. Sure.

That’s right. You read it correctly, “as the state sees a flurry of lawsuits filed ahead of a statute of limitations deadline.

This doesn’t seem right to me. I’m not saying that people don’t have the right to bring lawsuits about something that happened to them years ago regarding this sort of sensitive topic. I understand that trauma has to be dealt with as soon as possible so one can attempt to live a normal life after sexual assault/rape.

But 30 or 50 years ago? I guess so. I’m torn on this one. I wouldn’t want someone walking around free if they did a crime of this nature. But it also makes me think that this could open the door for some false accusers, too. How are you going to defend yourself from this?

There Are Others

Enter Joe Namath and Philip Lyle Smith.

Philip Lyle Smith, 64, recently told The Post about his horrific ordeal at a Joe Namath Instructional Football Camp, speaking publicly for the first time about claims he detailed as “John Doe’’ in an ongoing Brooklyn lawsuit. – New York Post

So this 64-year-old who now lives in Florida and looks to be a big-time real estate broker in the sunshine state has decided to bring lawsuits in Brooklyn, New York.

Why now?

Smith’s civil complaint was originally filed in December 2019 but has been bogged down for years as New York courts deal with a backlog of sexual abuse lawsuits that came after the state allowed victims to file suits that would’ve been previously been disallowed due to the statute of limitations. – NBC News

So yeah. There you go. Show me the money! To be clear, Joe Nameth isn’t accused of doing any sexual predator acts. But he is named as covering it up at his youth football camps because his name was attached to the camps.

And just because you are rich doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be allowed to sue others for something that may or may not have happened 50 years ago. Well, there should be some time limit. Because let’s start breaking out reparations, too.  Other cases in the early 2000s are also affiliated with names mentioned in the Philip Lyle Smith lawsuit. So it’s not like this guy just woke up last year and remembered he was “abused” and decided to file suit.

But also, being rich doesn’t automatically make you a right and good person either. Bernie Madoff, Sam Bankman-Fried, Elizabeth Holmes, and Joe Biden come to mind.

And now, back to Mayor Eric Adams.

Eric Adams’s accuser was not a child when said incident occurred. But it still apparently happened 30 years ago. And why is this person allowed to file lawsuits today?

Kathy Hochul.

Similar to the Child Victims Act, the Adult Survivors Act will empower survivors of sexual offenses that occurred when they were over the age of 18. The one-year window will begin six months from signing and will allow survivors to sue regardless of the statute of limitations. For many survivors, it may take years to come to terms with the trauma of sexual assault and feel ready to seek justice against an abuser, while possibly experiencing fear of retaliation or shame.

In 2019, New York extended the statute of limitations to 20 years for adults filing civil lawsuits for a select number of sex crimes. However, that legislation only affected new cases and was not retroactive. – Governor.NY.GOV

So, it is not retroactive and only for new cases. I wonder what that means for Adams’s accuser, who is not named, by the way. The accuser remains anonymous while the accused is paraded into the news cycle to make sensational headlines.

But remember – presumption of innocence. The presumption of innocence is a legal principle that every person accused of any crime is considered innocent until proven guilty.

I don’t know how these old cases are proven, what sort of evidence is brought forth, or how the accused can defend themselves when these cases are 30+ years old. Is it a he said/she said type of thing? I guess we could ask Donald Trump. It doesn’t look good for Mayor Adams, I’m afraid.
