Snoop Dogg in Paris to Cover The Olympics

In a bizarre move, NBC hired rap legend Snoop Dogg to cover the Paris Olympics 2024. Not only that, but he also carried the Olympic torch during the opening ceremony. What in the world?

I discovered that the decision to have Snoop Dogg help contribute to the commentary was NOT some last-minute bird-brain idea.

NBC sportscaster Mike Tirico admitted he wished he had been the one to come up with the idea to include Snoop Dogg as part of the network’s Olympic coverage for the 2024 games.

Tirico, 57, was a guest on Monday’s episode of the “SmartLess” podcast hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett when the origins of the famed West Coast rapper being part of the broadcast team came up.

The genesis of the idea came from the last Summer Olympics hosted in Tokyo in 2021 when Snoop Dogg was helping with Olympic highlights on Peacock — the NBCUniversal-owned streaming service — with comedian Kevin Hart, and the pair had a moment commenting on equestrian that went viral. – The New Yok Post

This is what I get for being a stuffy old post-menopausal white woman. I gotta get hip and be more like Martha Stewart.

In case you missed it, like I did, who watches the Olympics anymore? Here is the video. Oh my gosh, ya’ll. I’ll watch Snoop Dogg this year!!!

Come on, man! Snoop Dogg is a gosh darn National Treasure! He got on my good side when he teamed up with Martha Stewart long ago. I couldn’t name one song of Snoop Dogg’s, but I know who HE IS.

So, after that 2021 commentary, NBC hired him to cover the Paris 2024 Olympics to get people interested in the Olympics again. And it’s going to work. I’ll watch Snoop. He is funny, and he’s smart. For a pot-smoking rapper, he is quick-witted, and I like that.

Here he is, carrying in the Olympic flame. Someone on X said it looked like a huge dooby. Fitting.

I must figure out where and how to watch this evening’s broadcast recap of each day’s events.

Snoop Dogg’s role as a special correspondent for NBC’s 2024 Olympics coverage is part of a broader push by the network to boost its ratings.

“Call Her Daddy” podcaster Alex Cooper will be part of the prime-time program and other celebs include Leslie Jones, Hart and Kenan Thompson.

“At night you’re going to be shown everything that happened, so we’re going to try to do a little bit of the storytelling, a little bit of the behind-the-scenes,” Tirico explained. “Give you a little bit of flavor of Paris and who better to snoop around Paris than Snoop.” – The New York Post

Hopefully, it won’t be on too late; I go to bed earlier than most folks. And if it is on late at night, I’ll look it up the following day because this will be gold!

Women’s Rowing Events

The women’s rowing events are what I am interested in this year. I am a rower and have been seriously rowing for the last few years. I’ve decided to row a marathon later this year, November 30th. I’ve only done a half marathon before. So I am a bit nervous.

The women’s rowing comes on at 0300 tomorrow! I am hoping to be able to wake up Saturday morning to catch it live.

Get a rower, they said. It’ll be fun, they said. And they were right. My rower is a Concept2 rower, and it links to an app with daily workouts and monthly challenges. For two years, I have participated in their biggest challenge, which also helps raise money for specific charities. It runs from Thanksgiving Day to Christmas Eve, and you can row 100,00 meters or 200,000 meters. I’ve done it twice, with the 200,000 meters. I’ll do it again this year. So, my marathon will come in handy this time.

Even though I couldn’t name any song by Snoop Dogg, it doesn’t mean he hasn’t won me over. While I am not a rap fan, I did enjoy his performance at the Super Bowl a couple of years back. He is known for his big heart and for giving back to his community. I enjoyed seeing him in an HGTV episode where he helped refurbish a house for a friend who helped him with his Snoop Youth Football League.

Legendary artist Snoop Dogg has spent nearly two decades giving back to the Compton, California, community. His Snoop Youth Football League has transformed the lives of area families, but he credits his league commissioner, who he nicknamed Commish, for bringing his vision to life. His dedication to the league is what helped the program succeed. “Commish took the football league to a whole new level. He’s graced so many kids and families and serves as a family figure to many,” praised Snoop Dogg. “It’s time he gets what he deserves. We share a vision for this community and know that [the league] has helped families to bond.” – HGTV

You have to love a man like that. Good for you, Snoop. Carry that torch with pride and have fun at the Olympics. Do your thang, sir.
