Thursday Murder Club

Thursday Murder Club

Well now, I have discovered the Thursday Murder Club. It is a book by Richard Osman. And I am thrilled to find out he has two more in the series.

  • The Thursday Murder Club
  • The Man Who Died Twice
  • The Bullet That Missed

Thats’s the order of the series and I am currently on The Man Who Died Twice.

Honestly, I don’t know how I discovered the first book. It was probably recommended by my audiobook app. But I am glad I took the chance and started listening.

I have them on audiobook. Yeah, I know but it is easier for me to listen to audiobooks these days. I listen to them while I am at work and it is a nice break from listening to the news all the time.

Of course I still like an actual book. My eyesight is not what it used to be so even with contacts or glasses, I would still have to order the large print.

Also, with me cleaning out junk and stuff so I can be a minimalist, I don’t want to collect more stuff just to have it taking up space. Maybe one day when we either move or converting a current spare bedroom into a space for myself, I can get a book shelf.

But anyway, The Thursday Murder Club is very good. Of course, at times, it makes you go “that’s not real,” but that is the whole fun of it. Yes, there are some non realistic elements of the story but the author still makes me want to believe it. That, to me, is a sign of a great writer.

Richard Osman also was (or is) the presenter/host of Pointless and House of Games, both British game shows. I never heard of them obviously because I do not follow British television. But I do like that the BBC has a television company called Remarkable Television. Heh.

At any rate, I suggest The Thursday Murder Club.

Synopsis

Four British(?) retirees meet on Thursdays to go over old murder cases in order to solve the cold cases themselves. Of course, when a murder takes place in their retirement village, the pursuit is on and adventure begins.

It thrills me to no end to have FOUR OLDER main characters. I love it that these characters are in their 70s and retirees. Very refreshing.

The narrator of the audiobooks is British, of course, which makes it easy on my ears. And I certainly am able to picture each character.

  • Ron – I picture sometimes as Bill Nighy but also Jim Broadbent but mainly Bill Nighy, even though he may not meet the description in the book.
  • Elizabeth – Celia Imrie (definitely)
  • Joyce – Julie Walters
  • Ibrahim – Sayed BadReya

The best-selling book has been picked up by Steven Spielberg’s production company Amblin Entertainment and will be written and directed by Ol Parker.

The Irish Examiner

How thrilling! Can’t wait! That Irish Examiner article is dated November 2021 so hopefully it won’t be too long.

It is rumored that Meryl Streep wants a part in the movie. And people are throwing out all the obvious names like Dench and Miran which I am not opposed to either. LOL

It will be a good movie either way, I am sure.
