Friday Pop Culture Scuttlebutt
Hello, my Little Love Bunnies; it’s Friday, so it’s time for the Pop Culture Scuttlebutt. I’ve been busy scrolling through the internet gossip and news to bring you the latest from the headlines and put it here in one blog post for your pleasure.
Welcome to Friday’s Pop Culture Scuttlebutt, where we dish out the juiciest gossip, wildest headlines, and most bizarre moments from the lifestyles of the rich and famous, as Robin Leach would always say.
Think of it as your end-of-week cheat sheet. You can sound impressively informed without spending hours scrolling because I’ve already done that for you.
From celebrity podcast confessions to court trials and arrests, stars’ lives are like sands through the hourglass. We’ve got everything you need to wrap up the week with a laugh, a gasp, and maybe even a slightly judgmental eyebrow raise. Grab your coffee (or wine—we don’t judge), and let’s dive into pop culture’s delightful chaos!
And away we go…
First up is the news of Danny Masterson’s attorneys filing for an appeal in Danny’s rape conviction.
‘That ’70s Show’ Star Danny Masterson Appeals Rape Convictions
More than a year after he was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison, Danny Masterson is appealing his rape conviction. In a 246-page opening brief submitted to the California state court of appeal on Wednesday, Dec. 18, the That ’70s Show star’s lawyers Cliff Gardner and Lazuli Whitt argued that “fundamental flaws” led to an unfair trial. – PopCulture.com
There is so much to this case that you probably missed over the years unless you are a diehard sleuth.
US Magazine details a timeline of the story, starting with allegations in 2017 that were being investigated but went unresolved at the time.
Then, a big-time blogger got involved. Danny’s first trial (2022) ended in a mistrial. However, he was found guilty and sentenced to 30 years in the 2023 trial.
Now, the lawyers are tracking down the jurors and filing an appeal.
Even before Danny Masterson was charged criminally in the case that sent him to prison, he and the Church of #Scientology were sued civilly in August 2019 by his victims. It’s been slow going ever since, and now there’s a new delay. https://t.co/4pB5ssPgLw pic.twitter.com/ftnxFQZ95C

Stay tuned for more on this development. I blogged about this case earlier this year, stating how stunned I was that this was a case of He Said, She Said. It looks like Danny Masterson and Donald Trump have something in common. I’ll include updates about this case in future Pop Culture Scuttlebutts.
‘Tiger King’ Subject Arrested in Florida
Tiger King star James Garretson, who played a pivotal role is securing Joe Exotic’s conviction, was arrested in Florida this week. The businessman-turned-FBI informant was booked into a Key West jail on Monday, Dec. 16 for allegedly driving with a suspended driver’s license, according to an arrest report obtained by TMZ. – PopCulture.com
Ya’ll, I’m embarrassed to tell you that I have never watched a single episode of The Tiger King. So, I don’t even know who James Garretson is. I know! And I call myself a pop culture blogger, smh. I’ll try my best to get around to watching it.
Trinity Rodman ‘Done’ With Dad Dennis Rodman After Apology: ‘Wiping My Hands’
Trinity Rodman was not exactly thrilled after her father, Dennis Rodman, took to social media to apologize to his daughter following her recent comments on the Call Her Daddy podcast.
Taking to her Instagram Stories Thursday, the Olympic soccer star called Rodman’s apology a “joke,” writing, “The response alone. And the attention.”
“… Wiping my hands with it. I’m done. Thank you 👍,” she added alongside a screenshot of her father’s comments. – TMZ
Did you all even know that Dennis Rodman had a daughter? Of course he does; he’s Dennis Rodman, after all. Notorious for the party life and eccentricity and girls. The numbers don’t lie. The question should be, what other kids does Dennis have? But his famous Olympic soccer-playing daughter is not happy with her father. She spills all the tea on the Call Her Daddy podcast.
Trinity might be upset with her dad, but I bet she liked his money when she was growing up and before she became a soccer star, signing a 1.1 million-dollar deal with the Washington Spirit. I’ll admit that after reading about their relationship, I agree with Trinity.
If this is not enough Pop Culture for you, check out Vogue’s 2024 Pop Culture Review to satisfy that craving. They break it down between Moo Deng to Trad Wives to Hawk Tuah Girl.
That does it for this week’s Pop Culture Scuttlebutt. Enjoy your weekend.
