Quitting Botox

Estimated read time 5 min read

Confession time: I have used Botox. But I am quitting it now. There is nothing wrong with using Botox. I have decided to quit for personal reasons and health concerns. I do have a few auto-immune issues. Alopecia is one, and now I have Sjogren’s syndrome, too. It is NOT due to Botox, but maybe the Botox aggravates my condition. I am not a doctor. It’s just my personal belief.

So I decided to quit the Botox, just in case. Now, I have to grow old naturally. Which I am looking forward to now.

Again, I’d like to reiterate that I have nothing against Botox. I loved it when I was doing it. Initially, I was skeptical and afraid to do it, but I trusted my doctor when I talked to her. And I am glad she introduced me to it. I always joke with my husband that we could never move out of state because of her. I would never trust another person to stick a needle repeatedly into my face.

Remember that I still had my natural eyebrows in the image on the far left (before Botox). They were filled in, of course, but my eyebrows were the last form of hair to fall out. #Alopecia

Having admitted all that and accepting that I have decided to age naturally doesn’t mean I am just giving up. I’ll still use my skincare, which consists of washing my face (taking makeup off), moisturizing, and exfoliating occasionally—basic stuff.

Another thing I can do is check out anti-aging products. I am a beauty junkie.

One thing I’d like to try is a satin pillowcase. Even if I didn’t worry about wrinkles, I’d still like a satin pillowcase. It sounds divine! And comfy.

But this anti-wrinkle straw? I get the premise of this straw because back in my day, the whole wrinkles around your lips came from smoking cigarettes. But now that everyone is practically smoke-free, we have to look at the straws.

What does this mean for people who vape? Vape manufacturers may want to redesign their products to generate more revenue.

Sometimes referred to as lip lines, lipstick lines or smoker’s lines, lip wrinkles are vertical furrows that develop along and above one’s upper lip, according to Healthline.

To keep the appeal of a straw while trying to avoid lip wrinkles, TikTokkers have been purchasing an additional accessory for their Stanleys — anti-wrinkle straws are the latest addition to the hydration craze.New York Post

That does not look appealing. How your lips sit on the straw defeats the purpose of protecting the teeth from cold liquid. Even the gal in the video admits she doesn’t look cool using it. And while the straw sounds interesting, I think I’ll have to pass. But I will buy one anyway, to see for myself.

I talked about this on my podcast today.

The fact that women are scorned for aging and also scorned for using anti-aging products is a no-win situation. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Am I right? So basically, you must do what you want and not worry about what others say.

There are groups of people out there who will mock women who refuse to use Botox or any anti-aging stuff. The gall of women aging! Shameful!

But when we use them, we are also mocked mercifully. So, what is one to do? Do whatever the fuck you want to do and not worry about what others are saying. But I have to bring up those facts in this blog post. It happens.

Why am I even telling you that I am quitting Botox? Or why am I lamenting aging in general? Because if it helps someone else to understand and realize they are not alone in their thinking, that’s all that counts.

And I’ll also tell you that while I am a beauty junkie, I am very skeptical of all these anti-aging products being touted by celebrities or infomercials or amplified by famous podcast/radio hosts with a 60-second spot.

To me, washing your face every night and putting on any moisturizer will suffice. But I am also not a dermatologist. I only have my face and my experience. We are ALL GOING TO AGE!

However, what you put into your body counts for something. Food. And I am happy to see Dr. Eric Berg come to Rumble.

And yes, he sells products, too, but he gives away tons of free information in his videos! I learned a lot from him.

Anyway, no magical potion or convenience pill will keep you from aging. Sure, Botox does help you look rested and youthful, but wash your face, moisturize, use sunblock, get your sleep, eat healthy, and exercise. Might I also add to ease off the alcohol?

Common sense, people. And a little effort.
